I believe it is starting up next week sometime, so this is just a reminder. Those of you who played in it last year from what I've read enjoyed it. For those of you that didn't, we are going to be doing it again this season.
It is FREE! Most leagues you have the draft, and then that's pretty much it. Well other than checking the waiver wires and making changes due to injuries, for the most part the rest of the year it is BORING. In this league you have a salary cap, and you can pick up ANY player you want from week to week, as long as that player doesn't put your team cap over the limit. Each week you can change your ENTIRE team if you want, but that is not recommended due to managing your cap. A players cap number or worth goes up and down each week depending on how they perform.
Anyways, I'm just reminding you people of the league, and trying to get a feeler on how many people will play.
Last year we had 8 or 10 in the league, and the rest of you said the same thing, "I'm already in 4 other leagues, I don't have time to do anything but play in the same boring format all season." :D
So once again, it is FREE, we will be playing it, so don't get into too many leagues. (although that last message is too late for most leagues)
Give me another chance. I sucked last year.

Give me another chance. I sucked last year.
So did I and it was my second year :boom
I struggled early in my first year, and then kind of learned how to do it, then did great in the second helf and went from like 18th place to 4th place by the end. (it was a 20+ league that year)
Then last year I tried some new things, feel behind early and got screwed. It helps to start out fast, that is for sure.
All right. Send me some info when you make a league. Thanks. :yay
I'm already in 4 other leagues, I don't have time to do anything but play in the same boring format all season.
salary cap league was the most fun ive had in any sort of fantasy football. It was a blast. Im in no doubt. Where is the sign up info?!!!!
Is that Yahoo's or what? ???
I'm in NB.
I'll play. IM the league info to me?
yeah NB, where is the info!
by the way, this is an official :CF contest... so you will get your name on the champions list and have bragging rights if you win. :deion

we used ESPN last year. I just went over to Yahoo and noticed they have a salary cap league too.
ESPN has it, I can't send league info because it is not up and running yet. ESPN.com does this EVERY year, they wait until a week or two before the season to start the league. There is no draft obviously, so I guess they figure it's meaningless to start the league up too soon, when they probably need to use their resources to get the regular (fee-based) leagues going, do all the drafts, etc. By the time they start up the salary cap league (which is free) most of the drafts and stuff are done.
As for the Yahoo league, I just went over and checked it out. I created a private league, and then tried to build my team using their version of a salary cap. Personally I don't like the way their salary cap is formed, and I really don't like the way they do their scoring (i.e. 50 yards passing for one point, 20 yards rushing/receiving for one point). I know the scoring would be the same for all, but along with the way they do the salary cap and the scoring I don't like it.
If you all are that anxious, then we can do the Yahoo league, but whether you do the Yahoo league now or the ESPN league later, you have until 5 minutes before the first game to set your lineup. So I think we should wait for espn.com to catch up.
ESPN site was great last year. Let's use that again.
im totally cool with ESPN's site, especially if Yahoo's is different than last years ESPN one.

That's what I was thinking, but then again this could be a new format that we might like better. I go and mock people who want to use the same format, and then say I don't want to try a new format in the Yahoo salary league.
This format brings:
1) 3 WRs instead of 2, a TE where ESPN doesn't have a TE.
2) The salaries are "$10.73" instead of 5.5 million so there is more detail in that I suppose. The $10.73 is supposed to mean 10,730,000 but they put them in simple terms.
3) The Yahoo league we could set up now, maybe giving us a better chance to get more people involved, whereas the ESPN.com league may not start until late this week, or even next week (which doesn't matter at all in terms of setting up our teams, but may get more people involved I suppose)
I like the espn format better from what I've seen, but then again I haven't given the Yahoo setup a chance.
You all let me know what you want to do, and majority rules, we'll go from there.
hmmm.. those are all valid points to switching over to Yahoo. Also, you can access your salary cap league from your fantasy home page area at yahoo while being able to access all of your other yahoo leagues, pickem, etc. Thats good for not having to log onto ESPN all the time.. but thats a minor thing.
honestly, it doesnt matter to me that much since i had a blast last year, but your points about having a TE and a more detailed salary cap make me lean towards yahoo i suppose.
I put a poll in this section, majority wins.
For those of you who played last season and liked it, we need to get more people this season. Last year we had 8, which is enough, but it is much funner :D if we have more people on the board involved and talking Ish. So do what you have to do to get more people involved. ;)
So far there doesn't seem to be a lot of people responding, I don't know if that is because they don't want to play, are involved in too many leagues already, or just haven't heard about it/ don't really know what it is all about.
Get the word out! This is the most entertaining league out there by far. Yeah you lose out on the draft which sucks, but what do you do in the other leagues during the rest of the season? It's boring compared to this league. :D
Screw it, let's just do the Yahoo thing since we'll have other CF stuff over there.
Ok, should I post the group name, password stuff on here, or should I send it privately to each person.

If it's on yahoo, lemme in. I forgot my username and password last year over on ESPN - thus the reason my roster never changed and I prolly finished in last.

Hey that was a fair trade offer pie master 2K4.
Vick has been hurt all offseason, played very minimal in a new scheme (WCO).
M. Bennett
QuoteVikings' Bennett Could Miss More Time
The Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings RB Michael Bennett (knee) may not return until after the team's Bye week. The Vikings have targeted Sept. 20 (vs. Philadelphia Eagles) as the game Bennett returns, but he may not be able to play until Sept. 26 (vs. Chicago Bears). Either way, the earliest he may be able to start a game is Oct. 10 against the Houston Texans, coming off the team's Bye. "That's the way I see it now," head coach Mike Tice said. Bennett has a second-degree sprain of the MCL in his right knee.
All you have beyond that is Suggs who is going to split time with W. Green and is unproven.
Boldin is out almost all year, if not the whole season.
With these injuries, you are HURTING for depth and starters. So laugh all you want, but you'll wish you may very well wish you had taken that trade. ;)
I hate Bulger, I think he'll have a miserable year this, if he stays healthy. Hot steaming pile of feces. :boo
Duce has never been a good fantasy back.
If this was the regular season, I'm pretty damn sure Vick would play.
I have Ahman Green who kicks ass. :paranoid
I've been a fan of Suggs since VT, I think he'll be a stud.
Stephen Jackson could get a lot of playing time with Marsha Faulk getting up there in age and all those nagging injuries that add up.
Until I hear otherwise, I don't think Boldin will miss much more than 4-6 games. I've never put much emphasis on WR, so I'll take a chance. :evil
I forget who else you tried to pawn off on me.... ::)
Was it 32+ year old 3.2 yds/carry Eddie George? I really didn't want him on the Eagles that much because I think he's overrated and has been the last 3-4 years fantasy wise.

Question about the salary cap league.
If one of the players we boughts price goes up, meaning we bought him at a cheaper price, do we get that money added to our cap? Meaning if someone buys James Thrash and he goes out and has 4 TD, 200 yrd receiving game and his price shoots up, can you sell him and get that increase money, essentially "raising" your spending cap.
i certainly hope not.
In the ESPN league, whatever you paid for the player, his cap stays at that number. If you release him and sign someone else, and then try to pick him up again later, you have to pay his updated cap number.
It becomes interesting when the bye weeks start. ;)

So when you release him you just get the money back that you initiailly spent on him, not what his current market value would be?
correct.
Quote from: MURP on September 10, 2004, 01:56:37 PM
correct.
That sucks. So the only value of picking up someone with potential (a la Javon Walker with the Pack) would be that you get him initially at a lower price and thus have a better team when his cap numbers go up, since you got him cheap.
there are many ways to look at it.

NB, you started this league, you better investigate this and get back to the league how the rules work. When I hit the link for the rules it was no longer available. Every salary cap league I've ever participated worked the way Mikey suggested, meaning your total $$ to spend changes with your roster's value. I chose cheap sleepers banking on those rules.....QuoteSalary Cap: $100.00
Current Team Value: $80.31
Available Cap Room: $19.69
Expect a reply NB before Sundays games....
:boom :boom :boom :boom :boom
I dunno, i think i may be confused. maybe thats how ESPN was last year. Ill just shut up about it and let NB answer.
here are the yahoo rules.
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/salcap/rules/rules-08.html
QuoteUpdate Unit Values
Clicking on this link will adjust downward the salary you allot to players on your team whose salaries have decreased since you acquired them. It brings your Team Value in line with the player's current market value, freeing up cap room for you to use on other player moves.
So, assume you have $25 million allotted to Priest Holmes, but his current market value drops to $15 million. By clicking the "Update Unit Values" link, you will lower his salary to $15 million. This frees up $10 million for other moves.
Using this feature will automatically adjust the salaries for every player on your team whose salary has decreased since you acquired them.
If a player's salary has increased since you acquired him, his salary WILL NOT be adjusted upward on your roster when unit values are updated. However, if you sell this player, you must pay the current market value to reacquire him.
Looks the same as ESPN....i think.
I think so too after i re-read the rules.
You buy Joe Blow for 14.50 to start the year.
He has three good weeks in a row, and going into week 4 he costs $16.00 going up .50 each week.
What does he cost you? $14.50 Do you get paid a $1.50 just because you kept him on your roster? No, that's dumb.
What does he cost everyone else in the league who hasn't picked him up yet, but realize Joe Blow is a fantasy stud and they want to pick him up going into week 4? $16.00
If you sell him do you get $16.00? No you get $14.50 back to use on someone else.
You have an extra $1.50 over everyone else (should you keep him), simply because you bought him before his price went up. If you sold the player that you bought for $14.50, and got back $16.00, the game would be too easy, and lame. I mean there would be NO incentive for keeping the guy, no challenge. You could literally change every player every week and never be penalized for not managing your team and cap.
It would be the easiest game ever. In the Yahoo rules, as in the ESPN rules, if you release a guy, you get back the money you paid for him. So you'd obviously want to find good guys, and get them while they are cheap & keep them, because the good ones go up really FAST and before you know it you can't afford anyone. Some players you need to just keep on your team through all or most of the year, other players you can change. You choose, it's called a challenge.
If you try to buy and sell each week all or most of your players, thinking you are making money, then you will turn around and not be able to afford anyone.
In other words, MURP was right.

I guess you can't see everyone's team like you could in ESPN. ??? ???
I'm in a league for my work, and it is on the espn salary cap league like we did last year, and that one is much better IMO.
I'm glad we are giving this one a try, but I still like that one better. Yes in this league you get an extra WR and a TE, but in that league you get an extra QB, and your defense gets 5 points per win so it's a whole different way of picking defenses. If you pick what would traditionally be a bad defense in FF, but you think they will win this week (such as KC defense if they were playing SD or something), then you pick them, they get the 5 points for the win and then everything else on top of that (i.e. sacks, INTs, etc.). It makes it fun to buy different defenses from week to week based on that.
Plus I can't figure out the scoring, and the salaries are annoying. How Bulger got 18 points for me I don't know. He had 272 yards (10 points), 1 TD (4 points), an INT ( -2 points) and yet he got me 18 points. :o
